The Power of Music, Tapped in a Cubicle

Amisha Padnani writes for The New York Times about the benefits of listening to music when trapped in your little cube. She cites one study that demonstrated people who listened to music got tasks done more quickly and came up with better ideas. This likely has to do with mood, in that someone in a good mood will consider more options. Interestingly though, it can only take between 15 and 30 minutes for music to refocus your concentration, so you do not need to be listening all day to stay focused. Keeping headphones on all the time is a good way to look like an isolated loner anyway, so the lesson as always is “everything in moderation.” You can read Padnani’s full article here:
